I just went to the park today. I saw a parent let her kid take a faceplant on the climbing structure, another kid fall off the swings, and three boys spinning the merry go round until they were lifted off their feet by centrifugal force. Another spun her 2 year old until he got dizzy, then stuck him in the grass to run around until he fell over. Then some of them rode off on bikes, without helmets.
This was after I picked my 19mo old from day care, where I let him cry it out after he fell face-first off a bike. Then let him cry it out immediately following when another kid took the bike, since we were leaving. The "free-range parenting" thing is just another meme to rile up the people who want to be angry about something.
At my school, most of the parents wish more than anything for their kids to step away from the tech devices and go catch frogs for a few hours.
Can we stick to the funny pictures?
