The lion rampant is the Scottish royal standard.

Much like the coat of arms you see on Richard I in all those Robin Hood movies, except the Scottish one came from, correct me if I'm wrong someone, Robert the Bruce (or at least the Bruce line).

It's actually been used in some incarnation since way before Robert the Bruce.

Now it's pretty much only used by drunk idiots at Scotland football games :embarrassed:

Slight historical aside, Robert the Bruce was actually quite the 2 faced little shit and he gets off quite lightly in Braveheart. Quite funny to think that he's seen as one of our national heroes when he sided with the English against the Scottish several times for filthy lucre until he burned all his bridges south of the border and was essentially stuck up here trying to grab the throne. :shrug:
