Larrivee P-01 question.

Local GC has a used P-01 from 1999. It's a rosewood/mahogany model and they want $599 for it, which is pretty close to what they sold for new. Now I like Larrivee guitars a lot, but it's hard to believe that it's kept it's value that well, especially considering this is a pretty no-frills model. I'm going to go in and check it out either tonite or tomorrow, and if I dig it I'm going to put it on layaway, because I'm headed to Nashville over the weekend and want to play some stuff down there too. I really want either a parlor or a nice sized OM model and locally there just isn't much available.

So what do you guys think a fair offer on the Larrivee would be?

$250 --three bills if you're desperate. $500 for that is highway robbery.

Sorta reminds me of my Tacoma EM9 -- unfortunately it's currently hors de combat (needs a neck reset). I loves me some small acoustics!

Yeah, if it was one of the current International Space Station P-01s that would be a good price, but for a '99? I doubt they're going to want to play ball, but its worth at least checking out. I can pick up a new P-03 for $799.

Actually $500 isn't a bad price. If you look on past AGF or unofficial martin, you'll see $500 is a pretty average price for used P-01s. A '99 will also be a Canadian made Larrivee. If you can find them for $250, buy as many as you can and resell them.

These guys were great to deal with. We went back and forth, discussing what I wanted in a an acoustic and the tones I was looking for. They sent me a guitar that hit the nail on the head.

OTOH, you could throw a $425-450 or so offer out on the P-01 if you really want that and see if they bite. Demand for parlors seems to run hot and cold.

They've got $450 in it, so they're not willing to move much more. It sounded nice, but could do with a fret dress and a few frets could use a level. It's action is good now, but since it doesn't have a truss rod...

If it were me, I'd be inclined to wait till you come back. If you don't get anything this weekend, see what you can work out on it when you get back.

That's the plan. Although I'm looking online right now and not seeing much in Nashville until I hit about $1700. Really want a parlor or 00.

also check Larrivee forum for prices: those early models are sought-after and it seems to be priced decently. maybe they will do the fret work and a set-up as part of the price. looks pretty good. Larrivees' parlors have a great rep. I've had a couple Larrivees (not parlors, though) and think they are really great; compared to a Martin, Taylor, Gibson and even H&D, et al they are a good value.

No wonder GC is in the dregs. A buddy of mine went to our LA-ish GC for some small items, and while there looked at a small Mesa Scout that was covered in dust in the clearance area. They wanted $800 for it, and would not budge. I understand commerce, but it's amazing they wouldn't sell the damn thing when it clearly wasn't moving.
