Laptop Questions...

I'm finally at the point where I "need" a laptop... I see plenty for around 400 bucks, some with windows 8 and some with windows 7... So, is there any preferred brand, or is it all Chinese junk, ultimately? And, what's your opinion of Windows 7 vs. 8?

I like my Lenovo with Windows 7. I haven't spent enough time with Win 8 to have a good opinion.
