Can't most of your gear purchased be written off?

All of it can be. It either goes on my depreciation schedule or it can be expensed depending on how the account feels is the best approach for that tax year. My Guild x500 was expensed, so I got the entire purchase price back a few months after I bought it in my return. It was a free $4000 guitar

That doesn't mean I can go apeshit and buy whatever I want but it does make it easier to consider bigger purchases when I actually need something.
