I'm in a building that has a Starbucks in the lobby.

I have no idea what you’re all talking about.

you damn hipster

A student gave me a $5 starbucks gift card as a thank you for writing a letter of reference, but I'm not sure that even buys an entire coffee anymore..

Chances are, nearly all of us are within a short distance of a Starbucks.

I would join you but I got talked into avoiding caffeine after mid-day.

I have three choices for coffee/lattes in Battle Creek:

Starbucks
Biggby's (used to be known as Beaners)
Five Lakes Coffee (used to be known as Great Lakes Coffee & Chocolate Co.)

All three are 'chain' coffee places. No local coffee shops here anymore :( Kalamazoo has some very good local coffee joints that I hit whenever I head to K'zoo.

8 miles to either of 2 Starbucks, in the closest larger town. 3 miles to local coffeehouse ran by the “young & hip” church across the street. It’s barely ok. I like Starbucks better.
20 miles to Berkeley Bobs, the only real coffeehouse in the area. Owned by old hippie Bob, actually from Berkley.

There’s a Starbucks a couple miles away. I’ve never been to it.
My daughter makes me take her to one near her work every once in a while.

I don’t mind some of the brews they offer, but I just want black coffee.

Ya know what I do like?
The new sous vide eggs they have. Sure they reheat them in their fancy oven thinga-ma-bob but they are still pretty good and not terribly expensive.
I discovered them when I was in Toronto for a week of training. Everyone in the class stopped at Starbucks on the way to the office. So, I followed along and saw them advertised. Perfect breakfast for me. Eggs, bacon and cheese in a two or three bite sized morsel. Two per order.

Hey, I am with you. Other than Folgers/maxwell house crap, I had not had coffee prior to college in Seattle in the early 80's. We used to go get out our melitta filters and holder, go buy a bag of Starbucks from the ave, and bring it back and open the bag and smell it like it was a bag of lush pot. Despite the tastes of others onboard here, I like dark Sumatra still the best.

I drink my coffee black; Starbucks coffee kills my stomach.

by the early 90s (when I was there), literally every corner on the ave had a coffee cart

I like a latte good and hot with whole milk. But most of the time I drink 8 O’clock thru a French press at home. Strong and black.
