I Think I'm About to Do Something Stupid

Peen Simmons

Let’s Get Obtuse!
I have amassed a mighty pile of guitars lately. I like them all. They do neat stuff. However, my limited space for gear is becoming an issue.

Also, my Martin has made me see that you can have one of one type of instrument (acoustic) and be totally satisfied.

I think I might pair down everything...go with a single electric that does it for me, and embrace monogamy.

What's it called when you do this kind of epic double reverse mystix twist?

The Circle of Life.....

I call it "The Smurfco". It's where you threaten to sell everything and I talk you down.

Also, don't go full BioMuff here. Remember, you need a backup. And a bass. So get yourself down to 2 electrics, a steel string, and a bass.

Try this experiment: on this and other guitar forums of your choice do a search for the terms "I wish I still had", "Man, I miss that" and "I regret selling" and read the tales of woe.

If thinning the herd is imperative, by all means go ahead, But be warned.

I've bought and sold my fair share.

And I don't miss a damn thing.

Well, whatcha got?

Just sold...

Casino...wanted one for ever based on history/gear lust. Don't love it. Can't quite get my sound out of it.

On the block...

Fender Classic Series '60s strat...I like it. Nicest strat I've played in some time. It's a strat. So I run hot and cold on it

Schecter PT -- nice enough. I dig it, but it's not inspiring. It's not gonna see much action. It's a "ooh a useful thing to store in the closet" guitar for me.

On the bubble...

Les Paul Studio -- its ugly. It sounds and plays nice. It's utterly replaceable.

Baja 60s Tele -- haven't had time to really bond with it. It's the best candidate for backup town.

I'll make the call on the backup once I've got the situation sorted on the number 1.

This is what you get for selling that G&L SC-2. You should sell all of that crap. Question being, what are you replacing it with?

I purged a bunch of gear this past summer to get down to 2 electrics, 1 acoustic, 1 amp and a few pedals. TBH, I found it pretty liberating to consolidate down to the 'keepers'

Not basswood
Durable and unfussy
No huge frets (that's what did in the G&L)
No zero fret bullshit
Two pickups
Hardtail
No high gain heavy metal bullshit.
Slight preference for a rosewood board
All scale lengths are welcome

Well, you could keep your tele, but you don't like it.
Price range?

That's not exactly what I said. I said I've not had time to bond with it. I'll likely hang onto it as a backup and see how that goes.

Price range is probably $1.5K at the top end. Could stretch for the best thing ever. But wouldn't mind freeing up some assets and maybe having less tied up in gear.
