I just don't understand how guitars and amps get stolen at NAMM

unreal.

I'm actually surprised more gear isn't stolen from NAMM every year.
With the amount of staff they have there there shouldn't be any. Apparently if you have an exhibitors badge you could take gear out without an inventory form this year. There was a lot of other changes including no real volume police that made the show less that enjoyable as well.

Is this happening during show hours, or are exhibitors walking in the next morning to find it gone? There must be a ton of cameras in any of those buildings if some janitor is taking it out in the middle of the night.

You've gotta have pretty big balls to walk out of there with an amp.

Thieves suck.

It could grow legs basically as they usher everyone out at night or more than likely after all is said and done sunday.

The problem with the amps is basically it wouldn't look out of the norm to carry them out sans case. At least the guitar would be suspect.

It will be interesting to see if the missing (presumed stolen) guitar and amp will result in security reforms for the next NAMM. Also, is NAMM not liable for any lost or stolen gear brought in by the exhibitors?

Security tags and detectors at the door would help. Of course, that doesn't stop someone from taking it out the dock door, in the case of an inside job, or someone from another vendor.

Makes me understand why Rickenbacker tie wraps all of the guitars to that hanger.

Sad really...

No they aren't. We all have to carry insurance on our own stuff to be there.

Something always grows legs at the show and it's a real travesty. Honestly, maybe zipties at the end of the day would be a decent middle ground.

Bad, low-budget security. Every item should be tagged and inventoried on the way in. Nothing expensive should be allowed out during show hours unless escorted out by the vendor who checked it in. I can't even walk strings out of a Guitar Center without a receipt and an escort for expensive stuff. NAMM getting this wrong is absurd.

Agreed but the sure volume is staggering there.

Next year if I was andy I'd cable lock all the amps together. Would be cheap provention. (sucks we have to do it, but tis life).

I've been going off and on since 04 and they've really stepped up the security over the years. I would find it tough to sneak something out of there given all the door and bag checks. Even the vendors need a form filled out if they want to take a guitar out at night and I've never seen them make exceptions.
