How does this one sound to all of you folks?

Dogsinplastic

avuncular to no one
Not really in the market and I'd like some thing with more tone shaping and about $50+ cheaper, but this sounds quite good.

they sound good but there are many Klones that sound just as good for a lot less money.

I'm watching That Pedal Show comparing Klony stuff from Dec. 2015 and there's no denying a difference in the sound of most of the variations...none of which are bad. They also have an A/B from January this year:

Except for the Soul Food, the most well rated are in the $160-190 range. The Soul Food seems to be really hit or miss in the realm of reviews. People either love it or hate it...very little middle ground.

Are you looking a new prices? There are plenty of Klones under $150 used.

I disliked the Soul Food quite a bit. Love my tumnus though. I need to find a good Klone that will take a 9v battery.

more tone shaping

You could look at the Crown Jewel from BuildYourOwnClone.
You can buy them pre-built if you're not interested in burning your fingers on a soldering iron.
The cool thing is that the boost circuit can be swapped out to allow you find that combo for which you are searching.

"The Crown Jewel from Build Your Own Clone is the ultimate drive and boost combo. It is not a clone of anything. It is an amalgamation of the best qualities from many different circuits to create something entirely new that is capable of producing a range of overdrive and distortion tones like no other analog pedal has before.

With a parametric midrange, and 3-way Mid Q switch, the 3-band equalizer allows you to voice the drive channel in almost any way imaginable.

The hard and soft clipping switches allow you to select 9 different textures of distortion. Hard Ge (Germanium) clipping is similar to the clipping in the Klon Centaur, Maxon OD-855, and MXR Dist +. Hard Si (Silicon) clipping is similar to DOD 250, ProCo RAT, Marshall Shredmaster, Fulltone OCD*, Boss MT-2, and Boss DS-1. Soft Si clipping is similar to the Ibanez Tubescreamer, Boss SD-1, Boss OD-1, Zendrive*, Marshall Blues Breaker, King of Tone, and Timmy. There’s also Soft LED clipping or no clipping at all. And you can also use soft and hard clipping simultaneously like the Boss HM-2, DOD FX53, and other more obscure dirt pedals.

The Crown Jewel has an internal charge pump that provides 18 volts to the drive channel circuit while still using your standard 9VDC negative tip power supply. The 18V/9V switch lets you decide how much voltage is supplied to the drive channel. Use 18V when you need more headroom or output. Use 9V for more traditional overdrive and distortion characteristics.

The boost channel is completely independent from the drive channel. You can turn it on and off even if the drive channel is off. The boost channel is modular. The Crown Jewel has many different boost modules to choose from and we are adding more. Changing the module is easy. Just remove the back of the enclosure, pull out the old module from its socket, and plug in the new module. The Crown Jewel comes with your choice of one of the following. Click on the module from the list below for more info. "

The Crown Jewel doesn't have a battery, but it will run off of 9V. It has its own charge pump to bump things up to 18V.
If you need a backup for power, you can always just use a 9V wired to a DC jack and plug it in.

Here's the guts of the Klone, with battery plug for anyone that cares...
