Hot dog of the sea, but where are the trains?

I remember reading once that calling it imitation crab meat is was some sort of compromise between marketers we were trying to break it into the pre-sushi-craze U.S. market and restrictions in U.S. labeling laws.

In Japan, it was always considered a thing of it's own, not tied to crab. But I don't think it can be labelled solely as kanikama/surimi in the States.

It's always freaked me out, and I avoid it.

Same with tofu (and yes, I know it's not the same, but it still freaks me out).

Huh. I've never really confronted this bias on my part until now, but I think imitation crab is nasty, while I love various asian fish balls in soup, hot pot, etc.. (not to mention hotdogs)

Oceanic gyro.
No, gyros is actual spiced lamb meat
gyros are quite varied. I ate way more of them than I should have in greece and the one that I had were all pork.

jp is referring to this

not the real stuff, like this

Most that I have had were lamb and beef or lamb and pork.

Yeah, the gyros around here I'm aware of come from a beef/lamb slurry.

Still delicious!
The words meat )or the names of meat) and slurry should never be used in the same sentence.

That said, I've had the processed kind of meat I how above and it's not the worst thing in the world.
The real stuff is SOOOOOOO much tastier though.
