Hmmmmn. What's this?

I'm not Doug but I'm a mini fanatic.
Depends on the era. The early 64 firebird pickups sound almost like a really fat stratocaster. Beautiful sound.
New Gibson firebirds are ceramic magnets and wound very hot. Great for high gain but not much else.

Check out Daniel Lanois playing this 64. Awesome tones.

One of my favorite clones of the originals is the Duncan vintage SM-1 mini. Many hate the SD stamp on the cover but I don't care. They sound killer and are $85 each.

I haven't played either the Lollar or Klein but they both have great reviews.

Most of the cheapies I've tried sounded awful. Many aren't built like a firebird pickup at all and they sound like doo.

Firebird pickups are like big strat or tele pickups because they literally are. It's two melody maker pickups jammed under one cover. They certainly have a unique sound.

I've used Klein for the last few years, actually like the duncan and kent armstrong versions but I'm working with Rob @ Arcane for something new.
