Hairband nightmare, or potential

New "Supergroup" combining former members of Journey, Whitesnake and Nightranger.

What do you think? Me, it sounds like hairband nightmare.

Yeah. I didn't say WHICH bills they'd be paying.

I would bet that if they have any success they would try to make money with shows on the smaller casino circuit or something like that. Like the reservation casinos up in Washington State, and the smaller ones in Nevada. Seems like that would be the right fit. Being semi-serious here.

I think calling them a "supergroup" is being generous.

I like this line in the article: "You can tell by the name (and the names involved) that this is not going to be your average rock ‘n’ roll album."

They're right. It will be a below-average rock n' roll album.

Hmmm....Blades is a pretty good writer and they have two really good vocalists in the band. 'Supergroup' is stretching quite a bit. I would listen but I'm not expecting much.

I'm usually not a fan of "super groups". Usually a disaster or go nowhere. I expect the same for this one. But I don't begrudge someone trying to make a few bucks by cashing in on past fame. I'd probably do the same.

I was thinking some of these guys might be good players, and maybe they weren't just hair guys until they got in their bands in the 80's and that was how thew were marketed. It would be cool to see something completely different come out of the effort. But based on the early press, I would guess they are trapped into being marketed as "used to be in that band" so the expectations would be for something similar to what came out of their old bands.

Folks gotta pay the bills.

My thoughts as well.

As for supergroup, well...

They did come from big named bands with Jack Blades being the most noticeable name. Outside of having to have played with some great guitarists, Blades is a good songwriter penning many of Night Ranger's hits as well as his super group Damn Yankees.

As for Deen Castronovo, he has played in quite a few bands and does have a really good voice but has been overshadowed - IMO - by many of the other within the other bands he played in. As for Aldrich, Whitesnake had a revolving door of guitar players. Don't really know about him much other than that project.

I really wouldn't call this a supergroup because the 2 of the 3 players haven't really done a lot by themselves.

Interestingly, I've seen Doug Aldrich and Deen Castronovo (on the same bill as it happens) and both have serious chops on guitar and drums respectively. Jack Blades I have no exposure to, don't think Night Ranger really made an impact here in the UK.

I REALLY dig Doug Aldrich's playing. I discovered him in Hurricane back in the late 80's,and have also been impressed with his work in Dio and Whitesnake. He is a MONSTER player but knows when to let the song breathe as well.
