My local library has a ton of books in both PDF/kinle/itunes and audio format...including a lot of recent releases. Might be worth looking on your local library website.

I've had great luck with the Kindle so far. I have a Kindle app on a netbook, another on my phone (although I almost never use this one), and on an old Kindle. All work very well. With this, you can also borrow a lot of library books from the public library. Pretty great.
