Master of the Meh
Every once in a while I think I really miss this car. I see these pictures and am reminded of how beautiful it was and how fun it was to drive on a backwoods twisty road just hammering 3rd gear (the "Magic Gear").
Then I remember the asinine amount of money and hard work I invested in it over a period of years... Weekly trips to the junkyard looking for black interior pieces that were still intact to replace the awful factory brown pieces one by one. The many trips to the body shop because some dickweed bounced their car off of it, or a random Kamikaze shopping cart from hell flying into it, or the time it was stolen (after the full restoration) and turned up a month later stripped and wrecked. The many sets of 17" and 18" wheels and tires it went through (one set because they were stolen) in order to find just the right look. The deafening Monza exhaust connected to a custom fabricated Header with 2.5" tubing all the way back. The way that exhaust would creep into the cabin at a stop light and make you dizzy. The brutality of the ride quality thanks to a set of custom lowered coils and KYBs mixed with all Urethane bushings, custom oversized sway bars, and of course... The 35 series tires.
It was very much a love/hate relationship. If all you wanted to do was go blast through some turns or cruise the coast with the T-Tops off, it was all good. Driving it for everyday purposes was taxing and ultimately unpleasant.
But damn... It sure was pretty!
