I post this mostly as evidence that I do occasionally put my 140 EUR Chinese jazz bass where my mouth is.

Nothing wrong there. Inexpensive instruments have come a long way.

My @gile LP copy is a great guitar.
The pups are bright,but I can eq that out instead of s swap.

Is a very cheap bass plugged into a fairly expensive amp using a curly white Fender cable. I flatter myself the cable is the weakest link in the signal chain but it isn't, it is my fingers. You can't, as the old saying has it, CNC talent.
