Foot switch question

So I got a new amp and it came with a foot switch but no cable to connect the switch to the amp. It is just a standard 1/4" jack. Would I use a regular instrument cable or a speaker cable or does it even matter? I'll probably never use it anyways.
 
If it's a 1 button swith an instrument cable will be fine...2 button switches use a 1/4" TRS connector and you'll need a special cable...
 
Instrument. The only difference with a speaker cable is that the copper conductors are thicker to handle more power. If you use an instrument cable as a speaker cable, it can get hot and burn up. A footswitch is low voltage.
