Too Controversial To Have An Athleisure Line
We finally got everyone in the same room together. The guitarist who had originally expressed interest bailed last minute, so the bass player reached out to a buddy of his, who showed up ready to go. This is a Def Leppard tribute (I know many of you despise the tribute band thing, but all the casinos, wineries, etc. around here are booking exclusively tribute bands these days).
First impressions:
Drummer came with me from ARENA. I know he's always prepared, and I know how he plays.
Bass player is a serious and meticulous cat. He wants to get everything right, and he has a pretty good ear for vocal harmonies.
Singer is a guy I've been wanting to work with for years. He's a bit more laid back about the work ethic, but he'll know his parts and sing the shit out of them.
Guitar player is a bit of an unknown quantity at this point. On the one hand, he has good gear, great tone (very similar to mine but different enough to distinguish one from the other), and he showed up with only two days notice ready to play all the songs. On the other hand, he's a bit less than precise in the way he plays--not sloppy, per se, just a little looser than I like. And of the two solos he played, one was not so good. Also, he's apparently not a great harmony singer. I think we mostly need him for gang vocals and doubling the melody in some spots, so it might not be an issue.
We assigned a handful of songs for next practice in a few weeks, so we'll see how it progresses.
Whee!
