Ever eat something without knowing what it was?

A couple of times in Panama, I still don't know what I ate for breakfast one day, the other time was a stew with mystery meat/fat that turned out to be part chitterlings.

Almost forgot the beef skewers that one guy sold outside the front gate that turned out to be bush meat, we found out when he got shut down.

The first time I ate calamari.

It was on a buffet at a Chinese food restaurant. In the deep fried section.
It was awful.

I've since had it properly prepared and I like it.

Had the experience several times on my last trip to Japan.

When I wasn’t suffering in a flyover state I could get good sushi and all kinds of weird stuff might turn up. I just ate it and hoped it wasn’t a really nasty urchin gonad.
