Dear (fake) BrewDog China

Some of their marketing stuff is over the top but they do make some fine beer. I had a Brew Dog Tokyo from 2010 last week....that was damn tasty

ABV:18.2%
OG:1140
IBU's:90
Malts:Marris Otter, Dark Crystal, Caramalt, Chocolate Malt, Roast Barley
Hops:Galena
Twist:Brewed with Jasmine and Cranberries. Dry-Hopped then aged on oak chips.

You guys probably just don't remember their name. They're the Scottish guys who made headlines a few years back for that 32% ABV beer named Tactical Penguin. I'm almost positive we had a thread or two about it here.

Yeah, then they one upped that one by about 20%. I just didn't know they had a tiny chain bar. That's kinda neat.

They've done headline grabbing beers such as:
The end of history: 55% ABV packaged in a dead squirrel http://www.brewdog.com/blog-article/341
Ghost Deer: 28% naturally fermented, served from a mounted deer head http://www.brewdog.com/blog-article/ghost-deer
Nanny State: <1% ABV, "IPA" http://www.brewdog.com/blog-article/153
Sunk Punk: brewed underwater http://www.brewdog.com/blog-article/sunk-punk
They did an IPA then put it in oak casks, strapped them to the deck of a trawler then sent it out to sea http://www.brewdog.com/blog-article/50

But, while most all of those sounds pretty gimicky, their beer is actually pretty damn good & their core line up is very solid. They've collaborated with some premier craft breweries; like Stone, Ballast Point, Mikkeller, Oskar Blues, Three Floyds, Nogne & Lost Abbey.

Another other interesting thing they've done is offer ownership shares in the company early on, pretty unheard of in the craft end of the business

I remember that too.

They are quite big now, they opened their new brewery a few months ago so now they don't have to be such hypocritical cunts as they don't have to get some of their beer contract brewed and canned at other breweries .

I do like some of their beers though, their core range is pretty decent for american inspired beers that are widely available here and are now more consistent, but their gimmicky beers are hugely hit and miss and they really shouldn't be releasing some of them. And their marketing blurb makes me want to kill myself with a spoon.

That's how the biz works. Lots of craft beer is contract brewed because of capacity issues but of course, few want to admit that. Check out what these guys do:

People say the exact same thing about Dogfish Head in the states but the thing is to me, while you might not like the flavor profile on many of the experimental/gimmicky stuff, as long as it's brewed proficiently, I think it has a place in a market oversaturated with the same old thing.

I know but Brewdog got a lot of free press by slagging off traditional brewers then go and get their ipa brewed and canned at thwaites. They are also currently slagging off Innis & Gunn for being contract brewed.
