The director of jazz studies at CSUF, Bill Cunliff, once told be that the Miles Davis Quintet sessions on Prestige were his Bible for a solid year. He did a lot of transcribing, etc. off these recordings. Bill is a certified bad ass of a player, so I figured it's time to dig deeper into these recordings that I sort of brushed over when I initially purchased them.
 
That sounds great!

I love it when I can hum the solos verbally and in my head.
 
I studied with a great jazz drummer named Kevin Tullius when I first started playing drums. He was a member of the L.A. Jazz Quartet with Larry Koonse and Darek Oles. The first thing Kevin had me do was go buy 'Kind of Blue' and play along with the first two tracks so I could learn to feel swing. I loved my lessons with him.
