Concerts - Favorite of 2016 and Looking Forward To 2017

As I just posted in the bucket list thread, we just got our tickets reserved for the Punch Bros at Wolftrap with I'm With Her and Julian Lage opening. PHC without all the extra stuff...plus some extra stuff. Should be great.

I have Flaming Lips coming up at the Ace Hotel, Sigur Ros at Disney Concert Hall. I want to get tickets for Belle and Sebastian and Spoon at the Hollywood Bowl.

Coachella died around 2010, and now a pathetic festival with the same name has taken it's place. FYF fest is still OK, might try to go again this year.

The New Pornographers have an amazing album out this year so I'm looking for their tour also.

Oh and there's some new festival around the Rose Bowl this year with Tom Petty headlining and the Shins the next day. All the other bands seem lame - Mumford and Sons, Alabama Shakes, two days worth of bands. City of Pasadena is just trying to cash in on the festival thing as some existing festivals approached them about using the Bowl and they decided to do their own.

Fates Warning just announced their NA tour dates:

The Detroit show is on a Friday night, and the Chicago (Joliet) show is Saturday the next day :) I'll have to go to one of those, I've never seen FW live.

The Detroit show makes more sense for me, travel-wise. But that venue is crap, the stage is raised only about a foot or so off the floor, hard to see anything unless you are right in front.

The Joliet show is at what used to be Mojoes (Jeremey's band played there quite a bit), and that place is a pretty decent venue to see a show. The stage is raised sufficiently for a fairly decent view unless some tall f*cker stands right in front of you :embarrassed: Bad thing for me is it's about a 1-hour further drive one way than the Detroit show :(

Never heard of them before, but I saw on a friends FB feed that a group called Avatar is coming to Battle Creek in May.

I youtubed a few of their videos. I'd go see them as tickets are fairly cheap at the place they will be playing, and it's on a Thursday night, meaning I could take that Friday off and see the show/have a 3-day weekend :)

I will be seeing John 5 in a few weeks. Never heard his music (other than Marilyn Manson stuff). He seems like a pretty good dude and by all accounts a great guitarist who plays telecasters.

Oh yeah! Delbert McClinton, Anna Popovitch, and Los Lobos at Ribberfest in Madison IN this summer!

So, the wife and I saw Dave and Tim at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin on Thursday night. They were absolutely excellent. Tim is such a fun guitar player and I love Dave's tunes...we both do.

The only issue was the loud drunk asshole in front of us that decided to talk during the tunes he clearly didn't like of know as well as the tunes dramatically sang and hand gestured along with. And for Tim's two solo pieces, well they were obviously set breaks cuing him to talk louder.

They played nearly three hours straight though...impressive for just two folks (no one else to carry any of the weight. We're thinking about going to the SPAC shows in June, including taking the boys to one.

Saw Cheap Trick last Friday.

They were good not great.

They've got a few really cool songs, a few good songs, and the rest is pretty mediocre. Definitely a "greatest hits" band. Props to them for making such a long successful career out of what they do

Drunk assholes at a Dave show, now I've heard everything. I really hope to get to see Dave & Tim at one of their Philly shows but tickets are ridiculous. Just saw today Counting Crows are coming to Hershey so I'm hoping to get pre-sale tickets tomorrow. They're touring with Matchbox Twenty so I'll have ample beer-line and pee time before the Crows. :embarrassed:

Have you ever been to a concert that didn't have a drunken asshole? DMB has far from any claim on that shit.

I've only been a couple of shows that didn't have a decent percentage of drunk assholes...some have been the people I've gone with. Drunk and/or high has been a running standard at DMB shows, but I've never had an experience like this at one of the band shows and certainly wasn't expecting at a D&T show.

I've seen DMB a bunch, and in my experience it was the greatest ratio of drunken dooshes per capita. Followed closely by Coldplay and Phish... Go figure.

The worst drunks I encountered were at a Fleetwood Mac concert in the late 70s or early 80s. idn_smilie

But I would expect a lot of drinking at a Matthews or Buffet concert.

With the rest of the Punch Bros and I'm With Her? Or is this some cool one-off trio thingy?

Also, Chad will give you fifty bucks to change your avatar to something not creepy...

Not 50 bucks, 50 ducks. actually 50 packets of duck sauce.

No, this is Eldridge playing with both of them individually. O'Donovan/Eldridge opens, Lage/Eldridge headlines.
