Since so many of us in the USA are getting cold weather already, I figure we should post our favorite cold-weather foods and beverages.
I may not get a day to cook this weekend, but if I do, I will prepare my #1 cold weather comfort food - chili. Lately I have been using dried chilis instead of chili powder. Toast 'em, reconstitute 'em, and make a puree. I usually use coarse-ground beef but at some point will try dicing again. The main thing is to let it simmer a long time, until the meat is so soft it becomes a delicious plasma. I like to serve it with tortilla chips, shredded cheese, sour cream, a little chopped red onion and tomato on top. Crap, now I'm hungry.
Other favorites are gumbo and chicken soup.
I'm not much of a hot beverage guy except for coffee, which I need every day whatever the weather is. So I'll go with anything alcoholic - remember, it's like a sweater you wear on the inside.
