Car of the Week: 1967 Mercury Cougar

My mom had a yellow 69 with the 428 Cj eliminator. Traded it in on a pinto wagon during the OPEC crisis.

When I was a kid, the father of the neighborhood juvenile delinquents had a dark blue one with mags and fat tires. Every once in a while, he would chirp the tires when he drove by us while we were waiting for the school bus.

Loved those. I had a friend with a dark blue metallic 68 in high school. It was the car I envied the most.

I liked Cougars. Remember the Eliminator?

The big 3 automakers had so many basically identical models in their divisions.

Ford/Mercury
Dodge/Plymouth
Chevy/Pontiac/Oldsmobile/Buick

It got ridiculous after awhile.

Our neighbor had one like this. You could hear the contacts clicking when the sequential tail lights/turn signals were going. I think they had a little motor that rotated with an arm that would put voltage into that light.

Edit: Found it
