can someone please give me the 411 on p90's?

Sooo.... can you guys please explain p90's to me?

The Yamaha RS520 a while ago has a set of P90's in it and it screams. I has this wonderful hot rodded single coil sound with a bit of teeth. It's sonically wonderful.

BUUUUT the Jazzmaster I got recently has p90's in it too and the pickups are so drastically different. They sound week and uninspiring.

The Yamaha is more les paul leaning in tone and the jazzmaster is more "assy" in tone. I detest it that much.

Are the guitars that different or are P90's that different from manufacturer to manufacturer?

Are you sure that the Jazzmaster has P90s and not jazzmaster pickups? They look the same, but are far from the same:

balls... that's it... the jazzmaster comes with v-mod jazzmaster pickups.

The Jazzmaster does not have P-90s. It has Jazzmaster pickups.

Jazzmaster pickups are nothing like P-90s. You could try some Duncan Hot JM pickups. They will get you closer to what you want.

We just used a set of those Duncan's in a Titan and they are great.

Lollar makes a P90 in a Jazzmaster format. Could be problem solved.
