Building my own Amp

IamSeaDevil

WTF? FTW!
After 3 different deals fell through on Vintage amps, I decided to build my own. Anyone else attempted this?
Well first I made a combo amp. It was supposed to be a 1x12 but it ended up being a 1x10 since I couldn't find a big enough paper plate.

So now I think I want to build a full stack of 4x12s since I just got new refrigerator.

But I am considering this OR120 clone kit:

Ive turned it into a business of sort..... More in the Fender, Marshall, Matchless flavor.... Have you done this before? It can be habit forming. Lol.

Weber kits are supposed to be pretty decent, but require that you know what you are doing.

Where did you get that fridge???

I was looking to build a 1959 circuit Marshall clone but then I ended up finding our that the Bugera 1960 Infinium is basically the Randy Rhoads 1959RR.

Thing is I don't really have much use for a Fender 5fi amp. If I did I would rather buy one.
Understand.

The thing is, if you're building a tube amp - you're in for a bit of a learning curve. A 5F1 is very simple and a great place to learn the ins-and-outs of building and theory. There are many, MANY things that can go wrong building an amp. Best to learn on something simple and work your way up. Good book to start out, btw: http://www.amazon.com/Guitar-Amplifier-Handbook-Understanding-Amplifiers/dp/087930863X - has a home-built kit as one of the last chapters as well.

Thanks for the advice @wagdog, I really appreciate it.

I built a Weber kit (the 5E7M...the same kit Randy built).

I also read that same book before building. Then printed off the schematic and layout from Weber's site and studied them for a while before actually ordering the kit.

I think it took me about a month from beginning to end, working only an hour or two at a time a few days a week. I didn't have any real issues. I wired up one of the transformers backward and it got stuck in an infinite feedback loop, but a little google research quickly told me what was wrong. Reversed those two wires and she's worked like a champ (or a Bandmaster) ever since.
