Anyone who can hear what tune Miles is inspired by here?

Trick question. Miles, though he's credited for it, didn't write it. Gil Evans did. It's a reworking of "The Wind Cries Mary"; Evans was, as we all know, a sincere and passionate fan of Hendrix's music.

That said...

In the 60s, Miles could basically do no wrong, musically speaking. Great album after great album.

And this is probably the single worst track from that entire decade. Maybe.

Love Hendrix, though.

(Though if your favourite Hendrix is anything other than Band of Gypsys, then you're listening wrong)

Is the expanded Band of Gypsies OK?

It's got the single most kickass Stone Free ever.

and is it OK if I say post-Gypsies Hendrix (Hendrix/Cox/Mitchell)?

Yes, Fillmore East is grand.

Preferring Mitch Mitchell over Buddy Miles, though, is just wrong. That seems to be the popular opinion, though.
