It's probably about 5K elevation at the top. I think Mt Washington's summit is 5300 feet-ish.
Tuckerman's Ravine's snowfall is actually a result of the Mt Washington weather phenomenon.
Winter storms roll in, hit the top of the mountain and DUMP snow all over the ravine.
Average snowfall is 26 feet and the highest recorded ever was 47 feet (or something like that).
It gets a lot of morning sun (facing the East), which can lead to crusting, then more snow....then more crusting, etc..etc...wind tends to swirl in the bowl, which can blow off some snow and pile it up somewhere else.
So yeah, avalanches happen.
I do want to try it one day, but it looks like it will be next spring for me.
