i admit, i have a place in my heart for the Explorer. never tried one though. i'm thinking the ergonomics would be wrong for me (just like the firebird and the flying V, unfortunately).

I have tried out all 3 of those that you mentioned.
I don't like the ergonomics on the V or the Firebird, but the Explorer was doable.

I guess it would depend on how you sling your guitar.

For me, there's not enough wood (body) in a V, and the Firebird just feels "clunky".
The Explorers I have played have a different feel to them, but it's not a bad feel, just different.
You're going to have to try one out for an hour in a store somewhere.
