All aboard the Fail-Boat!

The local Craigslist/eBay hybrid was advertising an Squier Affinity Fuckastrat for EUR 69, when in this star-crossed swamp they retail new for about 200. It was at a reputable music shop (specialising in accordians, which are still legal in the notoriously liberal Netherlands), and when I turned up it turned out to be basically unplayed mint. Even the factory-fitted strings are still shiny. A closet-queen de nos jours, if you will. (The man in the shop said it was traded in by a beginner who decided he wanted to play classical guitar after all. Exactly why it was so cheap, he didn't explain.)

Anyway: I am having a serious Grateful Dead phase and I wanted something with a single coil pickup in the middle position and I didn't have one. And now I do, for less that the price of a pair of shoes. (Also: I like big headstocks and I cannot lie.)

The last time I had a strat it was a Korean Squier, and it cost a lot more and it had a maple fretboard with a vintage radius and to say I didn't bond with it would be putting it lightly. (Although it was a very attractive shade of blue; nobody wants a black strat, because everyone has one.)

Thx guise!

I am not Venerable as a Blanchard, but I even so, this is totally not what cheap guitars were like in my youth (let's say 30 years ago).

The tuners work, it is resonant, the CNCing is hard to reproach. If I spent more on a single pickup than I did on the guitar I could probably get a nicer one, and that might happen, but good grief is this thing more or less adequate.

Nice! Import fenders have been pretty impressive the last few years.

Does the Netherlands have a lot of problems with tourists that can't handle the legal accordion action?

1) All Fenders are imports here. (But some are of course more imports than others.)

2) Probably, but we ply them with jazz cigarettes and ladies of easy virtue and they mostly get over it. (I am visit Amsterdam rarely and reluctantly, for a variety of reasons. Up here the tourists are generally Germans looking for the IKEA, and they are a hardy folk who have enough accordians at home.)

This made me lol.

Congrats on the great deal! I recently picked up a Squire Vintage Modified Jaguar, and I have been very impressed with the overall quality. Enjoy your Grateful Dead time!

Happy New Strat Day!

Is it impolite if I ask a woman to demonstrate her squeeze box?

I didn't know that accordions were still popular anywhere in the world, outside of the occasional Counting Crows song.
