A look at off-limits Route 66 in McCook, IL

Cool. This kind of stuff always attracts my attention.
It would be a perfect place to film post-apocalyptic film or TV.

Thats pretty incredible. You've gotta wonder why the state of Illinois allowed the quarry to be dug like that on either side of a main road though.

What did they quarry there?

You'd think that would be some prime location to level the quarry and build stuff on it, being that close to Chicago.

I wonder if anyone has droned the quarry that's under I-80/294? I'd like to see what that looks like from the air. That bridge over the quarry has been there since I can remember, like at 3 years old. I've always wondered what kind of condition it's in, with that much traffic crossing it.

I've wondered that myself. I hardly ever drive that way.

There are a lot of limestone deposits in the Chicago area. Closed quarries are usually converted to landfills.

HAHAHAHAHA! You don't know much about Illinois politics, do you? Illinois is one of the most corrupt states in the country.
Say, keep yer trap shut!

My dad always said Illinois has the best politicians money can buy!
New Orleans used to be, but they've cleaned up. Well, mostly.

Here's a short video of the Thornton quarry I-80/294

I always get the willies driving over that thing, and bridges/tunnels, etc. don't bother me :embarrassed:
