'66 Corvette vs 2015 Toyota Camry

If any of this comes as a surprise to anyone, you just haven't been paying attention....

Yeah, it was predictable alright. Of course, I'd much rather have the old 'Vette. It will continue to appreciate in value while the Mamry, um, Camry depreciates.

Its like my 1965 Chevy Truck. All of the experience but none of that translate into performance vs. a modern vehicle. Especially with safety features.

And this will come as no surprise either, I'd still take the 'Vette over the Camry. Besides throw some better wheels and tires on that 'Vette and you will see a dramatic improvement in performance.

I wonder how much of this is better technology and how much of it is just designers anticipating different driving conditions. When the Corvette was designed the US government, oil companies, and automakers were trying to infatuate the public with motoring their way across America as a vacation/hobby. So the Corvette designers probably imagined a car that people would drive in a relatively straight path at steady speeds. A 2015 Camry is designed for the real world—short commutes in relatively urban areas.

The funny thing is that you don't even have to go back to the 60s......drive a vehicle from the late 80s/early 90s and compare it to it's contemporary; the improvements in crash safety, driver aid & operating efficiency are exponential. Simplicity & light weight though have largely been sacrificed in this march of progress. Imagine this comparison between the '66 and a 2016 Vette.

So why not take the Corvette, put disc brakes all the way around, recaro seats, modern struts, an upgraded steering rack, and current rims and tires. :baimun:
