I used to gig with my Peavey Wolfgang Special and my POD X3 Live plugged straight into the FOH.

If I had to buy something now I'd probably get a used MIJ Charvel Pro Mod SoCal and a Boss Katana.

If I have to have an actual amp, maybe a Fender Rumble 200. If I'm buying second hand I'd just as soon have whatever the cheapest playable P-bass I can find locally but there's a decent chance it won't be cheaper anyway. (And no P-Js sorry that's just not right.)
