Default My Kid Picked Out His Graduation Guitar!

Took him down to the store to find a new acoustic to replace the stolen Ibanez as a graduation gift. He tried everything under $600 including a Taylor 110, a Martin, some Yamahas and others. In the end, the clear winner to all three of us was a used Epi Masterbuilt dread. Even came with case. We saved enough that we bought him a nice uke and a bag for it.

The Masterbuilt is a really good sounding guitar.

This thing is pretty impressive. Solid mahogany back, mahogany neck, solid spruce top, Grover sta-tite tuners, bone nut and a beautiful rosewood board with abalone inlays. It plays great and sounds absolutely huge. I see why these get a lot of love.

I helped one of my few adult students pick a guitar. We played everything under $1500 and the Masterbilt was the best of the lot. Hell, there were 3 really good Masterbilts, but this one just had the mojo.

Hope your kid enjoys his for years to come.

That was the one. I needed electronics and that was why I sold it to a guy on HCGJ. I was a really sweet mellow tone from that guitar.

These are worth a look. It sounded better than the $500 martins and the taylor 110.
The surprise of the trip (besides this one) was a Fender.
A Kingman Elvis Presley model. That one was pretty nice.

My zombie Fender may still be my favorite acoustic ever.

That's the weird thing especially with acoustics. You never know which one has the goods.
The cheap ibanez we had was great but I looked at a dozen more like it over the last couple of years and not one was as nice as the one we had.
