Jamie Moyer is the 8th most winningest lefty in the history of the game. I think he's almost a lock for HoF. What's amazing is he's been better after the age of 40 than any pitcher ever, and a class act taboot. I like the guy and wish him the best, he led the Phils in wins the year they won it all so he's got a special place in history for me.
that's just it. dude has a legit shot as it is. he's not a first balloter like Pedro Martinez, but he's not getting voted off so fast, especially as advanced metrics come into play. And put "300 Game Winner" in front of his name, and morons like Jon Heyman say "well hey, he's not my choice, but he won 300 games. sure, why not?"
i've begun to realize over the past year that the writers who think that aren't baseball writers. they're gossip writers who happen to focus on baseball. they don't actually know anything about the game and what it takes to win. hmmm...maybe Jon Heyman is the WIN METHOD guy...

depends on health and production. if he's healthy and productive, then 100%. if not, they pick up his option for next year and try and trade him then. same for Santana. likely stuck with Bay no matter what.
the important thing in a trade like that (again, if he's healthy) is that it helps to build the farm system, which is ranked 16th by Fangraphs. the right pieces back along with a strong draft could move them as high as 10th by next year.
the problem with Santana is his contract. he's owed $55 million. but he's throwing freely and his velocity is coming back. if they're willing to provide substantial salary relief, he could actually net the most. i mean, who wouldn't want a healthy Johan Santana going into the postseason?
49 things you should know about Jamie Moyer...
Some interesting facts in there.
Well then please send a time and location of the next Tin Foil Hat Club meeting, because I think there is a great deal of truth in that theory. The local sports media types have all pretty much said the same thing...
50. Jamie Moyer also owns a very successful Auto Glass Replacement Company in the Seattle area.
holy shit, Magic Johnson (and his group) just bought the Dodgers for $2 BILLION.

Well - apparently the Rockies only have a limited amount of room on the team for older players. Casey Blake got cut. Meaning they now have a gaping black hole at 3rd base this season until Nolan Arenado works his way up from AA ball (probably July - August barring any unforseen issues).
But it does appear Moyer has a good shot to make the team. A lot will depend on the minor league options of the other #5 starter candidates. Moyer has looked good all spring. The others - not so good.
Plus Moyer has been mentoring the younger pitchers in camp quite a bit.![]()

just finished the RA Dickey book. it's as much a book about baseball as it is about faith, perseverance, and a long inner struggle.
i dunno if it's possible to root harder for the guy, but this book compels me to. good read.
Nothing official announced, but it looks like Moyer will be in the starting rotation for the Rockies. The only question right now is his ability to start every five days. The Rocks want to limit the number of innings Pomeranz pitches this year since he only pitched 115 innings last year so Moyer will need to be the #4 starter - at least until Delarosa get back in late June.

Absolutely classless move by a former Rocky....

Giants extend Matt Cain. 5 years, something around $100 million.
Reds and Joey Votto working on a $200 million deal.
DAMN IT! The Cain thing.....I was hoping he would leave the Giants. Now the Rockies have to keep facing the bastard. I keep expecting Lincecum to break because the dude is so skinny, but Cain is likely to be just as nasty for the next 5 years.
The Votto thing - that would probably be a nine or ten years extension and he already has two more years on his contract. And he is 28 now. I like Votto a lot, but that is a long extension to give a guy who will be 30 when it kicks in...

i read this morning that Votto will be a Red for 12 more years and $225 million. he has Fielder and Pujols to thank for that contract.
the good news on the Cain deal is that it forces the Phillies to let Hole Camels walk, or offer him CJ Wilson type money. if he walks, the Phillies get worse. and if he signs, they have less money to spend on the gaping holes in their organization. even if they win, they lose. this could be the last year of the Philly dynasty.

the Giants have the best pitching in a weak division. but they need to score some runs and make Brandon Belt an everyday player. it's at least a two team race in the West, and the Dodgers could make it a three team race.
Sorry Dave, but the Rockies are not that second team.
