metulz Ways to support the forum!

    Hey folks!

We've actually discussed this before but I figured I would put a sticky thread up with what pays for the operating costs for us, which include a dedicated server and daily backup service. That alone runs about $1500 a year...the rest are small potatoes fees but that is the big one for me.

    1. Google Ads - those are pay-per-click advertising. Please check out out sponsoring advertisers but do not go crazy since those become recorded as fraudulent clicks and are subtracted from our account. Sometimes those clicks are worth a cent or two and occasionally they are worth a dollar or more - the advertisers bid on the spot and there is no way of knowing what their maximum bid is. If it's a product or service you are interested in, check it out!

    2. Skimlinks - this is a service that is invisible to you on the forum but we make a small commission from selected websites if you click on a link here and buy a product there. The biggest fundraiser since we've applied for this have been things that you guys have bought from Musicians Friend through the "Stupid Deal of the Day" threads here. Pretty much any link you post in the forum and then click on to make your online purchase will pay a small (around 2% on average) commission.

You can also use these two buttons to search on eBay or Amazon, too!

    3. The MWGL gift shop! http://www.cafepress.com/mwgl - shirts and all kinds of junk. We make about 20% of the sale so its a $3-4 profit for most items. Not huge but it helps!

In addition to that, the occasional "Like" or posting of a thread on Facebook or other music forums also helps get the word out about new lessons, webcasts, Recordingfests and other events here on the forum which in the long run helps to grow and strengthen the community here.

Also, if you are looking for a book to work out of to strengthen your core concepts on the guitar then "Foundations for Guitar" is also available in hardcopy and electronic versions. I can also work out "bulk" deals for Guitar teachers that wish to use the book with students.

    Paperback book:

    Amazon.com - http://www.amazon.com/Foundations-Gu.../dp/061519883X

Lulu.com (I actually make twice as much in royalties if you order through the publishers website and not amazon): http://www.lulu.com/product/paperbac...book-1/2659416

    Electronic Versions:

    Ebook for computers: http://www.lulu.com/product/ebook/fo...author/right/1

iBookstore for iPod, iPhone and iPod Touch: http://itunes.apple.com/us/book/foun...42311784?mt=11

The online video or "Subscription" version
    can be found here: http://markweinguitarlessons.com/ind...&id=2&Itemid=7

Contact me directly for wholesale pricing for teachers or a test and evaluation copy if you can send a business card or website as "proof of instructor-ness"

We also get a spiff if you buy Guitar Pro through our site now....in all of the current lessons and "Lick of the Week" podcasts I've been including Guitar Pro files so that you can loop, slow down or otherwise alter the lesson to make it easier to practice...click the banner below!

I discovered early on that the average stranger online was more likely to buy something from Amazon where they could get free or cheaper shipping combining it with other purchases than buying an unknown guys book on an unfamiliar website. Now that I'm a little less unknown I'm hoping to change that

I'd say you're silly for wanting someone like me to sign a book, but I could do that.

You should start a thread and just post links to popular online stores that work with this. Then when ever we need to shop from one, we come here, click the link and do our normal online shopping. I know I would take the extra step to come here before buying something in order for you to get you 2%.

I think it needs to be a link to a specific product. Maybe just a thread for people to post their links in? I'd imagine most online retailers that we'd use would be included.

And they'll ship from within Canada. No doodies to pay. (I think that's how we should spell that word...)

can I bump a sticky? This is the first month in close to a year where the ad revenue for some reason is not keeping pace to pay the bills.

Mark, is there any way we can just make a straight donation via PayPal or something?

absolutely. you can always send to premiermusic (@) sbcglobal.net

Anything is appreciated although just clicking the occasional ad or posting a link to a piece of gear on a website like musicians friend and then buying it from that session helps and you guys aren't out of pocket, too!
