The two 30's certainly look happy together...![]()
got the new '63ri short scale bass today. it needs a setup, and i want to see if i can put some tapewound flats on it, but it sounds and plays decent. not that i'm such a tone snob, with it running through my Peavey Basic 60.
first shot is with it's 30" scale brother, the '63ri baritone. the second is the entire Danelectro Army, including my Convertible and DC-12.

I may or may not have completely misinterpreted my misconceptions as perceptions of misconstrued disinformation...

Congrats!
Yet another friend of Jack...
right on!
I really like how the pickguard has a hole around hte pup.
dunno why, but it really strikes me.
why for you hide the shiny one in the back?![]()
I don't remember, I think Fender nickel. I resisted flatwounds this time, but I like the looks of those nylon ones you picked out. I love the feel and sound of flats, but the tension always feels stiff. I think that is why I like the nylon ones better and that is what I usually go for on my long scale basses.
huh. i dig the flats. i got away from D'Addario because i didn't like how they balance their sets. to much tension on the high strings, and not enough on the low strings. i think i'm gonna go with LaBella flats. they have a 45-105 set. see how those work out before going tape wound.
YAY!
we should get matching capes![]()
Dano makes good instruments at low prices. I dig them because I can buy a 12 string or baritone for $300 instead of spending 2 grand on a Ric or building a partscaster that I'm going to play 3 or 4 times a year. And they sound and feel great.
The PRS is my main guitar. It's a totally different thing to me.
Yep, and partscasters cost more than a Dano... I enjoy making them, but it isn't cost effective...

i've spent some time tonight A/Bing the Dano with my Fender MIM Precision.
unsurprisingly, the Fender sounds "deeper". this is a combination of the many factors. among them, scale length, pickups, bridge construction, and strings. i'm not even considering body wood in this comparison because while i'm sure it makes a difference, the above factors are much more tangible. the Dano sounds brighter, but also more "hollow". which is kinda cool. OTOH, it tells me that it's in desperate need of a string change, which i already knew.
the pickups on the Dano are way lower output. this is actually a good thing. each pickup alone sounds good. though i'm not so much a fan of the bridge pup on any bass and this one is no exception. but they sound excellent in-series, as do all Danos.
i need better controls though. all the sweep on the tone pot is way down at 1-3. it's like a wah down there. the rest is just extra travel.
one thing at a time. first is strings. i'll put LaBella flats on both basses and see how that changes things. especially on the Dano.
You never know...new strings might just be the ticket....I'm afraid to change the 9 year old strings on my bass.![]()
