The song posted by SN sucks just about as hard as anything has ever sucked. Just IMHO of course. No need to get all butthurt about it, bros.

You've surprised me. I was just trying to get your goat because I thought I remembered you saying that you didn't like the V-Roys way back in the day on HC. If you really do like them, however, I'll send you a bunch of stuff. They have to be in my top-5 favorite bands.

I've only ever heard some Jayhawks clips at a Borders listening station. You want to swap some tunes?

What, exactly, do you like about it?
    The Casio keyboard drum track?
The incredibly boring guitar riff that goes on and on and on and on and on?
    The atonal, caterwauling vocals?
The out of tune guitar noodling?
The "beep bop boop" computer noises?
Seriously, how the fuck does anyone actually enjoy listening to that?

    I kinda liked it

I like the whole damn thing. I dig the arrangement. Dig the guitar. Love the vocals. Like the lyrics. The mood is great. I just think its really pretty.

Yeah, it was half "female Ben Folds with fuzzy wall-of-sound guitars and a drum machine" and half "Cyndi Lauper without the vocal confidence, style, charisma, etc." A little bit of syncopation/funk would really have gone a long way on that one.

It's kind of curious how Sad Nav can dismiss stuff like the Decemberists and Grizzly Bear as "twee" and "precious", yet eat this up. I don't get it, yet.

You also have to factor in fussiness. Grizzly Bear's stuff sound labored over and/or like the work of music majors. The Decemberists' stuff just doesn't click for me. I think the theatricality puts me off.

    frilly, pointless fluff?

can't say I've ever heard it.

then again, I don't recall the last time I read anything a pop music critic wrote

Ella had been a star in her own right for about 20 years by the time those LPs were recorded, and yet she was still so starstruck by Armstrong that she insisted on performing virtually all of the material in whatever keys felt most comfortable for him.
