The sandwich shop (and just about everything other than McDonalds) is still closed around here this morning so I figured I'd give Subway a chance since it was actually open. $8.59 got me a footlong Teriyaki Chicken sandwich on wheat bread and two cookies...no drink. The sandwich might as well come from a fucking vending machine.![]()

My son told me that Jimmy Johns (don't know if you have that chain where you are, Mark) is worse.

Hmm, well with places like that, it's best to keep it simple and you get disappointed less. Always take a good look at the veggies to make sure they look good and not mushy before putting them on the sub, pick a meat that can't be messed up (pepperoni, salami, turkey) (the spice Italian is usually a good choice and $5 too) not something like their microwaved chicken breast that usually tastes like cardboard or that seafood gunk.
If you ever get the balls to try it again, get a simple spicy Italian, ask them what their freshest bread is and use that, add a few veggies that look good and some Italian dressing. Get water, and you're out the door for a little over a 5 spot, and it won't taste like shit either.
Well, Subway is one of the few chains I will go to... However, I always get the grilled chicken breast, lots of spinach, lots of onions, lots of jalapenos, a little mustard, and some vinegar... Never get any of their gooey sauces, such as teryaki, or southwestern...
Sure beats the hell out of any other chain...

I'm a spinach man myself. Do you always notice that they ask you what veggies you want and without even listening start reaching for the lettuce right away like a trained drone, then half-way through the action it registers that I didn't say lettuce and said spinach instead, then there's a 2 second period of dumbfoundedness, and finally they put the spinach on? Or is it just me?![]()
I hate subway. Just terrible in my area.
Yea, I get that dumbfounded look when I ask for spinach while they are assuming what I want... Then, I have to convince them that I want a LOT of it, not 3 leafs... Extra onion means just that! I always seem to have to get them to give me a few helpings to make it more than a bread and meat sandwich... Then, they have a confused look on how can this guy like jalapenos...
Another issue I forgot to mention to Mark is that those cookies, chips, and drinks is where they make the most money, and you are paying an extra 3 bucks for junk... I only drink water, and I know that those cookies are loaded with crap I don't need, so I avoid them...

I always get a $5.00 sub there. they are not worth much more - but for $5.00 the foot longs loaded with veggies are a pretty good deal.
Yet another friend of Jack...
I haven't been in a long time. Last bunch of times, I was severely disappointed. D'angelos is 10x better. Don't know if any of you guys have that chain where you are.
The meatball sub is about the only thing i get there, its not too bad.

I've never eaten anything from Subway. You guys aren't making me feel like I need to.![]()

I've got no problems with the way it tastes (the honey mustard is delish), but it's way overpriced here.
If it were cheaper, I'd eat there sometimes. As it stands, maybe once a year![]()
I don't like the idea that you have to tell them every little fucking thing you want. Just give me that one *points to Subway super classic sub special #2 on the menu, goes and sits down and waits until it's ready*
I don't mind Subway. If you get a really bad sandwich from them, you really only have yourself to blame, since you tell them exactly what you want on it.![]()
Subway is awful. the amount of sodium in their meats is staggering.
my new job is in Jamaica Center. nothing there but major chain fast food. Wendy's, McDonald's, BK, KFC, Taco Bell/Pizza Hut, Subway/Dunkin Donuts, Golden Krust, etc. i did find a decent pizza place in a food court that also has ok falafel. but i will be bringing lunch as much as possible.
Sandwiches don't need sauce. And there's no reason to ever eat lettuce. Keeping those two truths in mind, I can get a decent sandwich from Subway the one or two times a year that I eat there.
The smell of Subway alone puts me off. A baker/sandwich shop is supposed to smell like freshly baked bread. I don't know what Subway passes for 'bread' but bread it ain't. It doesn't smell like bread, it doesn't have the consistency of bread and it certainly doesn't taste like bread. AWFUL, truly AWFUL
I drove my Tractor through your Haystack last night
I have always wondered about that. They have what appears to be bread baking all the time. But no smell of bread. What is up with that?
Meh, not the best food ever, but sometimes it's nice when you just want a simple sandwich. I get the same thing every time and it's pretty hard to mess up. 6" Turkey and American on Wheat with Spinach and Light Mayo. It's really too simple to screw up.
BTW I dont hate subway, but it isnt the best either. Some of the 5 dollar foot longs were OK. I had the new Quiznos deli sub today, the new ones they came out with for 5 bucks to compete with Subway I keep seeing commercials for. The sammich itself wasnt the best, but the bread was very very good, I had the rosemary Parmesan.
IMHO Subway is marginally better than those pre-made sandwiches at gas stations.....and yeah, some people dig those too.
I like the Subways by work. I don't get any of the fancy meat sandwhiches though. I just getting a veggie on whole wheat or their new 9 grain or some times some cheese too. The vegetables are usually fresh so for $5 I can't go wrong.
