    Question Next Coverfest?

I know we have originals coming up, but I'm planning ahead.

    Any of the above.

I'd prefer not Tom Waits, but it might be an interesting thing for me to learn a TW song and record it.

I was going to add "Phil's Originals" but apparently I can't edit a poll.

I've had an idea for a Pantera song in a country/bluegrass-ish style for quite a while.
Maybe I'll get around to doing it.

When i first got my recorder i tried to do a rock version of Sister Golden Hair. prages heard it. It failed in execution, but the idea had merit.

...I went with country/folk...I would highly protest an all Waits coverfest...maybe a famous songwriters coverfest too someday, Lennon/McCartney, Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison, Stevie Wonder, so on...

Considering I started recording a cover of a country song (done country style) on Sunday that would be easiest for me. It should be cool when it's done, one of the guys knows some chick who plays violin and cello so she's gonna come by in the next week to lay down a mini string section.

Here name is Tiffany so she's probably hot too.

I bet you haven't heard the good kind of country. Don't judge the genre based on modern Nashville style country.

I will openly admit that I've heard little country. Honestly I can't stand anything I've heard.

I guess it's possible that there's good country out there that I don't know about.

There was actually a great country/alt-country thread at HCGJ yesterday with a butt load of good songs linked....

    http://acapella.harmony-central.com/....php?t=2563183

Country is a bit of a developed taste, but there is a lot of great stuff out there with incredible musicianship and songwriting.

So will the next one include alt-country?

I already have a couple killer folk tunes to contribute (well, I do need to record them). Country should be easy though my voice does not lend itself to country very well despite actually sing a few leads in a country band...

Try on some alt country like Uncle Tupelo. Or find some Slobberbone.

I tried to vote free jazz, but there was no such option. Last week I recorded a tune with my band, using my old Les Paul-SG 1961. With an open mind it can of course go as country, but I´m not sure, really.

A lot of guys (myself included) got into the blues after getting into rock (lots of classic rock) you can do the same with country start off with the rocking alt country stuff like this and then work your way back:

Although the final Johnny Cash album comes out in nine days. Seeing as it's looking like country/folk is gonna win here, I'll probably be taking something off that.

I said I'd be game to do a Tom Waits song.

I don't look forward to having to listen to it enough to learn it, but I am open to trying it.
