New Acoustic Day

So remember, the Mandolin I just posted was purchased last August... so no gear purchase intervention is necessary; well, maybe necessary.

Before I left for my 5 week vacation with the Navy in Rhode Island, I had stopped by Elderly with absolutely no purpose in mind other then just fun. During that afternoon I ended up picking up a used Collins 000-1A 12 fret with slotted peghead on sale, (on sale for $5695). Anyhooney, it played amazing, but... that price.

When I got back to Michigan, in the week I was there, I went back to Elderly and looked at it again. Of course I played a bunch of different guitars/mandolins while I was there. I was trying to figure some way to rationalize that price in my head. And, by the way, not suggesting it isn't worth every penny, but...

So I see another 12 fret slotted peghead guitar and honestly it feels better to my hand than the Collins. Again, not saying better than a Collins, but to my hand, yes. BTW a 25.5 scale for the Collins Vs a 24 3/4 for this one I purchased...

a 2017 Taylor 612ce 12 fret. Really loving this, especially as a different flavor to layer with my 0000-28H Martin.

X-braced torrified spruce top with flame maple back and sides with mahogany neck.

Congrats on the Taylor! Woot! :thu:

All other factors being equal, strings, action, etc, shorter scale length will be easier to play than longer scale. You wouldn’t think it would make that much difference, but it does. Anyway, that could be the main reason that the Taylor feels so much better to you. Also, Taylor has an excellent reputation. That back is stunning!

That back is nuts! If PRS put that on the top of a guitar it would be one of those $20,000 private reserve guitars.

Absolutely beautiful instrument that. I know it's a bigger version of a 000/OM, but it's not dreadnaught depth, right?
correct... large lower bout but not the thickness of a dreadnought. So more comfortable to play, but still rich depth in sound
