2025 Concert Thread

Santa Fe hosts a lot of free concerts every summer and this year's lineup looks great. I may not get to all of these but I'm going to try.

Marchfourth
Vieux Farka Toure
The Fabulous Thunderbirds
KT Tunstall
Big Daddy Kane
Thee Sineers & The Altons
Chuck Prophet
The English Beat
Trombone Shorty
Pokey LaFarge
Who are the remaining members of the T-birds? Are Jimmy and Kim back together?

Trombone Shorty does not disappoint.

We went to a Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals and Trombone Shorty co-headlining show at Wolf Trap in 2019. Was bummed that Ben had the opening slot...at first.

TS was just not our bag. We left after about 20-30 mins (at absolute most). We've since seen him sitting in with DMB, where he was quite good. His original stuff or brand of bombastic rock trombone just doesn't interest our ears. Objectively great musician, just not our bag.

To dmn's post though, I wish there were free shows around on that level. Tunstall, the T-Birds, Toure, English Beat, and Pokey...that's some great stuff.

I see Michael Schenker added Armord Saint as a special guest. I'm there.

Mrs JBJ got Benson Boone tickets today.

I watched his Coachella set and he's a very talented dude so looking forward to that.

Styx. My son picked it. We had great seats too.
That's too bad. They didn't reschedule? They were touring with the singer from REO Speedwagon and Don Felder right?

Do they still do Babe, Lady, and Come Sail Away without DeYoung? Asking for a friend.

Man, Styx and REO. That's a cheesy power ballad connoisseur's delight. That would be me.

Which band does Don Felder play with? Both? His own?

They cancelled due to low ticket sales. In our area, it would have been Don Felder (guitarist/singer) opening. He’s the one who came up with the riffs that became Hotel California for the Eagles. When the Eagles got back together for the Hell Freezes Over tour, Felder noticed that he was not getting paid well. He started asking questions. So, Don Henley and Glen Frey quickly kicked him out of the band. He sued them and they settled out of court for an undisclosed amount. Band douchebaggery by two of the biggest D-bags ever in the music business.

For many long years, Styx has been touring with a replacement for Dennis DeYoung (Lawrence Gowan) because Dennis had always been the source of friction in the past.

Decades ago I saw Styx with Gowan and he’s a talented keyboard player and a fantastic singer. DeYoung’s songs tend toward schmaltz, and are not my favorites. But, they were the biggest hits for the band, so he pushed his weight around.

Kevin Cronin was the lead singer for REO. Apparently, he cannot get along with Bruce Hall of REO which is why that band split up.

REO is way too corny for me. I like a lot of Styx music, but less so with DeYoung’s hits. I like a lot of the Eagles music. I’m glad not to know any of these people on a personal level.

Legacy bands with lots of ego clashing. All those bands had their divorces and splits.

I just got some tickets to see Dale Watson and his Lone Stars in July. Out of all the artists in the world I’ve seen Dale Watson the most, probably at least 20 times. Honky Tonkin’ at its finest!

Show be a band that doesn't have conflict, and I'll show you Huey Lewis and The News.

*Sorry Huey. You too, The News.

Did any of you guys (or gals) ever know Adam Lopez from HC? I’ve forgotten his HC handle from back in the day. He used to tour around with various Rockabilly bands. He’s a very talented guitarist.

I used to catch his shows with various bands when he came through Colorado Springs or Denver. It’s been years since I’ve seen him play live. I lost touch.

After the pandemic happened, Adam switched to solo acoustic gigs with his own, original songs. I believe he comes through Denver on occasion. I’ll try to see if I can catch his solo act this summer.
