Lynch was a huge influence on me as a kid. His sound, his playing, and apparently even his hair still influences me today. :lmbo:

Yeah, Lynch was what got me interested in 80s metal scene. His melodic choices and phrasing were so unique. In a sea of VH and YJM wannabes, George stood out. I used to watch and jam to the Hear N' Aid VHS tape a bit (far too much in hindsight) and it always stuck out to me that in that sea of insane guitar players, that folks in the studio were audibly gobsmacked by his playing. There was no similar reaction to anyone else. I only saw Dokken once, the Monsters of Rock at Giants stadium, but I vividly remember that while the Scorpions were the best performers that day (and NO ONE was less than great), George Lynch was the best guitar player. In the context of the songs, he wrote and played great riffs and his solos built and went somewhere, and when he was just blazing...no one there could touch him.

Having said all of that, I'd always hoped he'd play more interesting music. His soloing can be otherworldly, but the music he has played over and/or written isn't particularly interesting as whole. A couple of handfuls of cool songs, but not much else. Metallica, the Scorpions, and VH have multiple albums that have more and better tunes than Lynch has compiled over his career. Still love his playing though. And he has always seemed like one of the most down to earth rock star ever.
