Uugghh... Had a soul crushing show tonight....

Funkasaurus Rex
It was a festival style show where each band got 10-15 min to set up and soundcheck and then played for 45.

Sound check was fine... Then we start playing and I think the sound guy got confused what was in each channel.

My acoustic was so distorted it was like there was a rat pedal on it. I could only hear the vocals clearly bleeding from the mains, and they clearly had no idea how to mic hand drums.

I stopped after three songs and had them try to fix it but we had to just power through. We have a big casino gig coming up in a week and I feel like we just showcased a garage punk band instead of a reggae band.

I have to figure out how to forget about this awful show and get ready for our next big show. :embarrassed:

Mojo Anthony. Shit happens. If I had a dollar for every night that went south, I would have a shit load of dollars.

I guess it makes me appreciate my Allen & Heath mixer with the flying faders and our mix already dialed in 90% at every show. I have saved mixes for small, large, and outdoor shows.

I feel your pain Baimun. The worst gig I ever had was in front of my own church, at annual "ice cream social." A group of us pastors had formed a band, and we were asked to play. We had a relatively new sound guy, but I had all the gear there in plenty of time to set up the night before. We rehearsed and felt good. The next day, the sound guy kept tweeking, and suddenly nothing sounded right. It was the worst we had ever sounded, and it was in front of people that I wanted to impress.

I came away from that show knowing a lot more about how to make sure it never happed again. Not that it won't, but at least I will have given it my best.

Just spoke to someone else who played the show.... the guy was using the gain knobs as if they were faders.... left all the faders at unity.

I hate playing gigs where I am at the mercy of a sound guy. Even though carrying my own gear is a pain, I hate playing with a bad mix. I especially hate when my acoustic comes out sounding like an over-trebled telecaster.

Concentrate on all the good gigs and let this one go.
