Took a trip to Two Harbors (north of Duluth) for the Great Lakes Aurora Hunters yearly get together and the weather was so nice getting cooped up in a VFW for 5 hours while people gave presentations seemed questionable.

A friend and I went up and participated in the meet and greet on friday night but saturday during the day went all along the north shore to check out the sights (palisade head, gooseberry falls, split rock lighthouse, temperance river state park etc) since the weather was unseasonably clear and perfect for November.

Sunday night after everything was over we decided to go go star shooting because the moon was going to come up and we had a couple unexpected developments.

Even though we were just east of town the view of the stars was shockingly clear and crisp:

Taken with Nikon D3200 with 50mm f1.8 lens "Nifty Fifty" - taken to the east about 45 degrees upwards

And then we had a couple of visitors - the Northern Lights came out - kind of subdued but nice:

This lasted at least an hour and then the moon rose. At that point it was all over so we headed out for dinner. Highly recommend travelling to Northern Minnesota for star shots! The funny thing is, at this point all the aurora hunter gathering people had left so they missed a show!
