Partial Solar Eclipse TODAY (23oct14)

I mentioned this in the sunspot thread, but figured this deserves a thread of its own.

Not optional, everyone is expected to observe it and report back here. cop0

In this part of the country it begins around 5:embarrassed:0 pm and will still be underway when the sun sets. Those of you with Sky Safari or the like on your phones or tablets can easily see a simulation of it - otherwise check the Sky & Tel or Space Weather websites for timing etc.

And of course DON'T LOOK AT THE SUN without a *real* sun filter. (I know nobody here is that dumb, but my lawyer said I had to include that in my post). You can easily make a pinhole viewer if you aren't equipped to observe the sun. Or if you have a pool, look in there and you will see dozens of little eclipses in the ripples. :)

Clouds are breaking up here... *continues bizarre chanting and dancing*

I think it starts at 3ish local time...I will be in a meeting :(

Mojo. Meetings are keeping me here until the last minute, with luck I'll be able to dash home with just a few minutes to spare.

The rough edge of the moon is just starting to take a bite out of the sun. Man, that huge sunspot complex is amazing! Right on the meridian, too.
