We're on Aurora Borealis watch tonight!

Coralkong

Alien
Let's pray for dark skies and a big solar storm!

I have never seen them (it's on my Bucket List), so this is probably it unless I travel WAAAAAY up north.
Supposed to be the brightest and biggest they have been in a LONG time.

If you are northern, get out there and see if you can see it!

Is that a porno movie or something?:zoinks:

Hopefully we'll be able to see them here tonight. I'm up north out away from the city lights so there could be a good show.

I told my parents to keep an eye out, they're in one of the "good" viewing areas. Hopefully they get to see it, I'm way too far south.

Way too far south and way too many bright city lights to the north (SFO).

I hope to see them again I used to see them a fair bit when I was a kid because while I didn't live that far north I lived far enough and out in the country the sky to the north was jet black

Good luck CK we are counting on you

We actually got them in Cincinnati many years ago. It woke me up, it was so weird.

Crap....the clouds rolled in, and there was no show for us here.

:(
I wasn't aware of this, but was traveling north from Cape Cod last night and saw nothing (but traffic). My wife told me about it when I got home; she didn't see anything either.

My parents and sis didn't see anything either, and they stayed the night in their treehouse. Bummer.

UPDATE:

I woke up today (a couple of days AFTER the big solar storm) at 3 am. Went to the bathroom and upon returning to climb into bed....BAM! There they were!

They didn't look like the pictures you see, but that's indeed what it was.

A reddish/orangish glow low along the horizon. It very subtly seemed to move and undulate. It looked like the sun before it rises, where you can see a glow along the horizon. Very similar to that, but they did seem to slowly move. And these were directly north, so it wasn't the sun.

So....it wasn't the giant green/purple spectacular curtains of light that you see in the pictures, but I did get to finally see them!

:houra:

Unless Quebec got nuked, that is....in which case, please disregard.

No word of Quebec being nuked...and the EMP would have knocked out communications so that's seems out.

Sounds like you saw them though when I was back east at a slightly (I think) higher latitude that you they were green on reddish/orange. I only saw the curtains and only a bit of red when I was a few hundred miles south of the arctic circle.

Not a forest fire was it? Not trying to burst your bubble but even up north where you see the curtains they are mostly green

Hopefully it was the lights. If they are there tonight probably are.

That would have been one hell of a forest fire! I could see it in between the mountain tops in the distance, and if I had to guess, that would be maybe 100 miles or so wide (across the horizon).
Nah,,,,it was definitely the Aurora.

I woke up again at about 4:embarrassed:0 am and looked out the window and they were gone.
