    NCFGD

A friend has one of the smaller bodied 14 fret Rainsongs that he uses as his take-to-the-lake, leave-out-on-a-stand knock around guitar. I think its just fine for that, but I would certainly not call it an "everything" acoustic, if anything its a pretty "limited" acoustic. I would assume...

    Help! Guitar Parts

The "part that is the body" is the the bushing and you should leave it in place (it is pressed in and can be pulled if necessary but don't do it). That's why we went thru all the talk about three different kinds of bridges - it is the size of the threads in the bushings that is important...

    Help! Guitar Parts

I have kind of the opposite problem as you do. The guitar that I'm working on is a funky old pretty much original Lester, but some bozo put a modern shiny gold cheap bridge on it. They mickey moused the ABR studs to work in the Nashville bushing by wrapping paper around them. I've got...

    Help! Guitar Parts

OK, that is a Nashville style bushing and posts. Measure the spacing between your posts and check the specs on the one you want to buy. There seems to be some very slight differences between models, but they are generally around 2-15/16 on centers.

    Help! Guitar Parts

I'm going to guess that you have the Nashville style bridge - the posts will look like this...

    Help! Guitar Parts

There are at least three different kinds of posts used on ToM bridges - the original small ones that thread directly into the top (ABR-1) - I believe the post is an M4 x .7 thread and it has the little adjusting wheel that moves up and down the post which is fixed. The second is the Nashville...

Guild GAD50e, good price? Good guitar?

Being the repair person that I am, I look at things that need repair. If the neck angle and frets are perfect, the action and setup are good, then its a good deal. If not, know the price to fix and negotiate. Also, be aware that resets on Guilds are slightly problematic - they finish the...

    Slight fret buzz.....

OK, my little lecture. Before you do anything to an acoustic guitar make sure it is properly humidified and stable. Signs of a dry guitar include flat or sunken top (a straightedge across the lower bout below the bridge should have about an 1/8 gap on each side - in other words, the top is...

    Dig it! Teaser Pic

I strongly believe in binding, particularly when you have pretty wood like that. A lot depends on how you plan to finish it, of course. As much as I don't like plastic binding, it seems to look "correct" on a Gibbie clone and its much easier to deal with if you are going to do color or a...

Are you going to bind it?

    The OM (non) build thread

I didn't take any pictures of the finishing process but the steps are pretty straightforward - sand the guitar and neck up to about 320 grit, shoot 20 or so coats of lacquer, three a day with sanding to 320 or 400 between each set. Let it cure for three or more weeks (good time to take a...

    The OM (non) build thread

I haven't updated this in a while. Since the last pictures were posted I've fretted the fretboard. Since its a bound board the frets have to be trimmed to fit in between the binding, each one is a different length. Here are the first two and a little gauge that I made out of a piece of...

Thoughts on the J45 - almost one year later

I've heard you play it, Gary, and it suits you perfectly. As I recall it was a TV show and an original song.
