Will not buy.

If you guys like that style I highly suggest you check out some Redd Volkaert, shit hot country guitar playing without the cringeworthy modern country style songwriting.

Brad has made no secret that Redd is his guitar role model. And Brad's writing tends to be pretty good. He writes a lot of non-serious stuff on purpose and some of it is lame (Ticks, etc) and some of it is quite good. Brad balances the old and new better than most, but I know 'new country' (ie 70's rock w/pedal steel) is not everyones cup o' tea...

I think his songs are great.

I am glad he's stayed away from the Chesney style of "make the girls croon" bullshit that's really over-done.

He writes music country boys wanna hear, and wanna play on their Kraco 2-knob radio in the cab of the 71 C-10 flatbed.

And it doesn't hurt that he sells a SHITLOAD of albums..

/// ----Paisley has recorded six studio albums and a Christmas compilation on the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arista_Nashville"]Arista Nashville[/ame] label, with all of his albums certified gold or higher by the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA"]RIAA[/ame][1

I hate the modern Nashville new country sound, to me the only difference between Paisley and the rest of the bunch is that he actually plays the hot guitar parts on his records instead of paying Brent Mason to do it.

Paisley is a guy I wanted to like, I bought his first album, didn't like it. Watched different youtubes over the years to try and get it and didn't. Watched his ACL appearance a couple of months ago and still didn't get into it.

I'm old school, I'd rather listen to Merle Haggard and Conway Twitty albums.

I prefer either the old school or modern country to most of the 70's and 80's stuff that was the fake hillbilly stuff (still a bit floating around today).

I like the real hillbilly stuff of today like Dale Watson, James Hand, Wayne Hancock, The Derailers, etc, etc.

I wish someone could give me a magic trick on how to look at new country in a different light. I want to enjoy some of it, i know BP is a monster guitar player, but God help me, i can't get past the genre, it just bugs me to death.

*edit* i can listen to the Hellecasters, is that new country?

No magic tricks needed. It's just music.

I always hear people talking about modern country compared to the twang of the past. I dont like all of it but as a genre, I still like it more than most "modern" genres. To me, rock - whatever that means any more - has changed a lot more than country. I think we all kind of get stuck on the stuff from our younger days. I grew up on old country and still love it but I dont have a big problem with the newer stuff. I like Brad a lot and a few others.

I also grew up on what we now call classic rock and it is probably still my favorite music. I am not even sure any more what rock is but I havent heard much in recent years that interest me at all. In fact I cant think of any right now that I would buy.

Music of all types has changed over the years. County music is still country. It's the country that's changed.
