Saw Los Lobos in a small venue last night

Fucktangular
Los Lobos at the Dosey Doe, a converted 150 year old tobacco barn with excellent acoustics and a very intimate setting. They serve a delicious meal before the show. We were 5 seats back.

The band only performs one or two acoustic shows a year, and they really enjoy doing it. They performed mostly Mexican folk style original songs which take on an incredible groove in their hands. Several of the guitars were small with paired strings, which I have never seen before, like 4 sets of 2 strings. The Lobos really brought it, entertaining us like we were hanging out at their garage. The music was varied in style, played at a very high level of musicianship. I'd certainly do this again!

Their drummer, Enrique "Bugs" Gonzalez, is awesomely talented.

Very cool. I've seen people posting about their shows this week on FB. Nice to see them still out there killing it.

I looked at the pics and thought "What the hell?......."

Then I realized I was expecting to see pics of "Los Lonely Boys". :embarrassed:

Oh wow, I'm jealous! I've seen them four or five times but never doing the acoustic thing. They simply kill as a live band and I'm sure this was no different.

Yes I was there, it was a great show! I have seen Los Lobos four times, but all more than 20 years ago. The acoustic format last night was a ton of fun.

The chicken fried steak was pretty good too.

Nice review and pics.

We were the second and third people in front of David Hidalgo on his lift a little. Here is my grainy iPhone pic:

Very cool Tig.

That being said, what a fucking dumb stage set-up. It looks like they put the people they didn't like on their own stage away from the rest of the band.

I've seen them several times and always killer. But, never "unplugged." I am jealous. Are these guys in the R&R Hall of Fame yet? And if not, why not?

Did they invite Paul Simon up on stage to jam with them?

(Yep, I used the same joke twice on two different forums today).
