Brian Setzer of course

Went and saw his big band orchestra at casino windsor last night. Phenomenal show. It was billed as an xmas thing, but only about half the tunes were xmas related. Played a handful of old Stray Cats songs, a couple standards jazz & rock. Great sound as usual and my god the tone! Just an incredible showcase of technique, style, and taste. I was telling my dad before the show that if there was one guitarist I could play like it would be Brian, and he only reinforced that impossible dream.

He played 4 different Gretsch's through his usual fender bassman setup, with roland space echo.

About an hour after the show I ran into the bass player (Johnny Hatton) in the casino and talked to him for 15 minutes. Super cool guy, I even introduced him to my mom and grandma who I saw nearby and he was really nice to them.

I'm debating going to see him again on 12/4. Issue is I leave on a road trip to New Hampshire the next day.

Sweet! You also saw Sean Billings, the trumpet teacher at Premier who is off for the next four weeks while he tours with Brian.

I love all his stuff from Stray Cats to big band. I'd like to learn how to play a few of his Rockabilly tunes.

:thu:
Setzer used to play Trump Marina in Atlantic City on New Years Eve years ago.
I never got a chance to catch the show.:(

i saw him a couple of years ago and was floored by his tone and technique. I was a die hard Metalhead in the 80's and HATED the Stray Cats at the time. I am thankful i outgrew that phase

I loved his Stray Cats stuff, and was glad to re-discover him in connection with his Christmas album from a few years ago, and his instrumental album from a year or two ago. I enjoy the bigger band swing stuff, but would love to hear more stripped down trio stuff ala the Stray Cats from him as well. For those of you that have seen his shows, does he ever strip it down a bit for a couple songs?

Very cool. He lives here in town now - I always think I might run into him someday but he keeps a low profile I hear. But then again I've never hung in hipster areas and in some ways he's the ultimate hipster with the chops to back it up.

I sorted through all of the pictures.

Early shot of the whole stage.

First guitar. He walked out on stage with this on his shoulder.

BrianSetzer2.jpg

Second guitar to come out.

BrianSetzer3.jpg

Third, and the jacket comes off.

BrianSetzer4.jpg

Fourth. This was pretty much what he used for the rest of the night. (Unless there was a similar one and I missed the swap or he did it offstage.)

And some fun pictures...... for fun.

The Rockabilly portion of the show.

Of course, what's the best way to see a rockin Rockabilly show like this?

Why, through the Pompadour of course!!

This guy was sitting two rows in front of my wife. A LOT of her pictures have his Pomp in the frame.

The Grinch.

They rolled the Grinch song right into the middle of Stray Cat Strut

BrianSetzer10.jpg

The best shot of Santa we could get. He was chucking candy canes into the crowd.

BrianSetzer11.jpg

The best shot of the back-up singers we could get. They never stopped moving.

Great photos! I wasn't too far from your spot. The sound is always really good in that venue, but did you think the bass and backup singers could have been a bit higher in the mix? I did.

Yeah they played for about 20 minutes without the brass, and then brought hem back for the end of the show. It was really cool!

Were the tickets expensive?

Free
